What is underinsured motorist coverage?

Underinsured motorist coverage is car insurance which you purchase through your own policy to protect you in the event that the person that caused the accident doesn’t have enough insurance to pay for your damages and injuries.

Think of it like this… if you went to the beach you could rely on someone else there to have sunscreen or you could bring your own just in case no one else does. If you go and no one brings sunscreen and you don’t bring your own you could end up getting burned.

Some States like Pennsylvania have minimum coverages you need to have to operate a motor vehicle, and some insurance companies trying to bring in more business advertise those lower coverages as a way to entice people to sign up. Unfortunately, those low premiums don’t equate to adequate coverage and could create gaps in coverage. Meaning the person who hit you may not be fully covered and your underinsured motorist coverage will kick in to cover you.

If you or a loved one has been involved in a vehicle accident by another who doesn’t have proper coverage you may have case against them, for more information call (610)265-8050
